For my first clinical rotation I shadowed a medical doctor (MD) in his private practice. He prescribed copious amounts of Vit D tablets to his patients. Knowing this vitamin comes mainly from the sun, I questioned his motives. He explained that despite educating patients over the years, their Vit D levels remain low. He agreed that if they spent time outdoors, they would benefit, but they don’t.
I find myself in the same dilemma with my patients. Working as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) I prescribe lots of Vit D. Especially for people living above the Mason Dixon line. During the winter months, people usually stay indoors limiting sun exposure.
If you ingest supplements, it can take weeks to months to build up your Vit D level. Normal level (30 nmol/L – 90 nmol/L). Therefore, coming in and getting a Vit D Injection is not only cost effective, but builds up your levels much faster than taking supplements.
The infusion supplies more Vit D to your blood stream than the injection. It is a matter of choice for the patient. The Vitamin drip can last between 20-30 minutes and is very safe and effective.
After Fish Oil, the egg is the most important natural source of Vitamin D. This comes with a cost though. The yolk of the egg is where you find Vit D. BUT it also contains high levels of Cholesterol which leads to heart disease.
Salmon is a healthier alternative and provides a good source of Vit D.
Come in and let us help to increase your Vit D level through our IV Therapy. It is fast, effective and “does the body good.”
